Opening Day 2009

Opening Day 2009

Here's the Opening Day Report.
Starting at the upper pond around 6:15 AM.
  1. Counted 15 water craft on the pond.
  2. Most shore side spots in use.
  3. Some fisherman in the water with waders.
  4. Lower pond parking lot had 23 cars parked - including an official DEM truck.
  5. Lower pond had 3 Portsmouth residents
  6. Upper Pond had lots of non-Portsmouth people.
  7. Only one out of state plate on the cars
  8. All of the spots cleared for fishing on the lower pond were in use - this was a great idea and needs expansion.
  9. Some fishing people arrived at 4AM to claim their favorite spot.
  10. Several complimentary comments on increased access, trails, general attention being paid to the park.
  11. The truck delivering fish to the lower pond got stuck on the way out. They got it cleared but the ruts remain. We need to consider mulching the access way before opening day if its wet.
  12. One fisherman who helped get the truck out was a govt employee who said that 1500 fish were put in each pond.
  13. The portable toilets were put to use by fishing folks.
  14. A dozen kids were fishing with adult supervision.
