Storm Damage report: submitted by T. Gray
Hurricane Irene caused the following damage. There was no noticeable additional damage caused by the heavy rains during the following week.13 trees out of place along the trails. Extent ranges from a single tree trunk across a trail to complete obscurity of the a trail. One Power Pole at a 45 degree angle along the Red Trail. National Grid replaced the pole on Sept 13. The old pole was contributed to the Campground.
A minor washout on Mott Farm Road on a slope near the west branch of the Yellow Trail. Vehicles may pass safely if using caution. Gravel should be replaced.
One tree leaning into the power lined near pole 5 on Smith Drive. Not removed yet and I don't think it has been reported.
C.J.Viveiros effort on clearing:
On Sept 13, all 13 trees were cleared from the trails. In addition, encroaching bushes and vines were removed from along the sides of Bayview and Smith and some additional weed whacking was done around Pond 8.
Trail Status:
The Green Trail extension has joined with the original Trail and is passable under extremely dry conditions, but I do not consider it completed and should not be signed off as such. Additional work includes installation of bridges over the wet spots and clearing of more bushes and vines.
Most of the trail work, which was originally planned for August 31 and deferred to Sept 6 and then Sept 13 was deferred again in favor of cleanup after hurricane Irene.
The remaining work includes:
Widen Blue Trail along the dam with power hedge trimmer
Widen east branch of Yellow Trail in a few places near Pond 8
Remove partially down tree on Blue Trail south. (We looked at this on Sept 13 but did not feel that we had the right equipment/personnel.)
Hedge trim and weed whack on north and east sides on Pond 8. Try to get closer to ground. (Some was done on Sept 13.)
Widen and weed whack Green trail under power line and beside Pond 3.
Weed whack 3 east/west sections of Orange Trail.
In addition, Mott Farm Road needs to be mowed.
A motion was made to contact Vivieros to complete work widening the blue trail above dam, remove tree on Blue trail and weed whack and widen yellow trails and around pond 8 and any other work that could be completed for under $900 by J. Emerson, 2nd J. Richard..motion accepted
