Melville Park Minutes

March 5, 2008

Meeting Called to Order at 7:00 by E.Rizy, Chairperson
  • Special Meeting to Consider two expenditures
  • The following members were present: P. Higgins, Co-Chair; T. Gray, K. Ptak, J. Richard, P. Botelho, G. Kinnunen & E. Rizy,
Tools for Park Maintenance: buy a Brush Hog for installation on Campground tractor to clear trails where feasible. P. Higgins and P. Botelho mentioned DPW equipment, if available, is run by a single DPW operator and is not available on weekends when Committee volunteers would be present to assist. Significant park areas need brush cutting to restore formerly broad trails and picnic areas. Motion was made by J. Richard, seconded by P. Botelho, to purchase a Brush Hog from the John Deere company for trail clearing and obstruction removal. Motion approved unanimously.

Mott Farm Road Ditch: E. Rizy had contacted Portsmouth DPW to request help in clearing the ditch of bushes and trees, to increase the flow of water down to the bay and not across the road. DPW was unable to commit at this time.
P. Botelho proposed to rent a mini-excavator ($400/weekend) to clear the ditch on the north side of Mott Farm Road. Where the water is running out of King’s Grant and flooding the road, P. Botelho proposed to trench the road and lay pipe and gravel in the ditch to keep water on the ditch, flowing tow the bay and off the Mott Farm road. 40 yds. of crushed stone would cover the ditch, acting as filters for leaves and trash, and prevent any child from coming to har. This would be accomplished starting in middle March with help offered from P. Higgins, L. and B. Bryant, and other Committee members. Motion to approve by G. Kinnunen, with J. Richard, second. Approved unanimously.

E. Rizy, chair, will confer with the Town Finance Director Friday, 7 March, to confirm expenditures will be approved.

Next Meeting: March 12 at Town Hall
    Respectfully Submitted,
    Edward Rizy
    Acting Secretary
