- Meeting Called to Order at 7:20 by E.Rizy, Chairperson
- The following members were present: E.Rizy, P.Higgins, VP, G.Kinnunen,
Secretary, A. Conti, Treasurer, T.Gray, & K.Ptak.
Excused Absence: L.Bryant, & P.Botelho.
The following members were absent: G.Love, & G.Williams,
The following member arrived at 8:05... J.Richard.
K.GIeason Town Council Liaison arrived at 7:50
The following resignation was accepted with regret: G.Kinnunen as Secretary.
Will remain on committee. Motion to Accept: P.Higgins.... 2nd A.Conti
- July's Minutes accepted with the following corrections:
- The proposed Charter will be named MP Charter.
- The water survey was on June 19th.
- Present were: Mike Kenyon, NRCS, E.Rizy, T.Gray, J.Richard,
Mr.& Mrs. John Dankewisz ( Friends of MP )
Motion to Accept: T.Gray .... 2nd Conti unanimous
- Finance: A. Conti Reported:
- Melville Yard Sale Account: $1,328.89
- Melville Committee Account: $100.00
- $15,000 MP Site Development Account.
Motion to Accept: P.Higgins ... 2nd K.Ptak
- Pond Survey:
- After touring ponds the following was noted:
Ponds # 1 & #2 could be blocked so repairs can be made.
- Pond #3 was hard to get to & overgrown as well.
- Pond #4 is under access wires.
- P.Higgins noted a dam he had seen that MP might be able to use
for Pond #5 to stop water flow & make repairs.
- E.Rizy noted that we will be using the Wildlife
Habitat Incentive Program .... WHIP .
USDA will inspect work periodically.
- A training session will be on 9/12... 2:30 to 4:30 in Warwick.
Call E.Rizy if interested in attending.
- T.Gray noted that Ponds # 5, 7, & 8 are easily assessable for
equipment & easily visible to public.
- Correspondence:
- Bob Driscoll has recommended that MP's new Charter be
presented to the TC at the August 14th meeting.
- Web Status:
- T.Gray reports the site is up and adds to it when appropriate.
- T.Gray was also going to update the MP Brochure and it was
noted that one of our finance accounts funds the brochure.
When up date completed the brochure will be placed in many
locations in town.
- Trail Signs:
- Volunteers are updating trail signs.
- Bill Board signs are up at: Pond #l ....West side of Pavilion ....
Campground .... Bath House at Campground.
- Some trails have a lot of poison ivy on them.
- Blue Trail looks well traveled.
- Yellow Trail needs weed control.
- K.Ptak noted the some of the following activities possible at MP ....
bird watching ....... nature photographs ... kayaking ...
- Public Relations / Press Releases:
- K.Ptak showed a copy of "Newport Life" as a good venue
for MP exposure & information relayed to the public.
Also noted that as a new committee member she would like to learn more
as to what people can do at MP.
K.GIeason, TC Liaison offered to take a walk in the park with K.Ptak to
see what the park offers to visitors, ..date to be set after Sept. MP meeting.
- MP Yard Sale:
- A.Conti will continue as Yard Sale Organizer.
Committee volunteers are needed . ..9/8.... 9 to 3. (or part of the day )
Contact A.Conti to offer your help.
K.Ptak is handling the publicity for this fund raising event.
- MP BY LAWS / Operational Guidelines:
- E.Rizy has a copy of the Tree Commission's Guidelines to help MP.
Also, has membership policies & requirements but needs a sub committee
to bring this document to term ... asked for volunteers ... K.Ptak
volunteered.
